As a hafiz, or someone who has memorized the Quran, it is important to revise your Quran regularly to keep a strong grip on it. This can be done by setting aside some time each day to review what you have memorized.
It is also helpful to break up the Quran into smaller sections so that you can focus on one part at a time. This can be a daunting task, but with a little planning and effort, it can be done! Here is a step-by-step guide on how to revise your Quran hifz.
Quran is prone to be forgotten easily if you don’t revise it regularly, and for such a reason, the prophet Mohammed urged us to stick to revising the holy book, reassembled the way Quran memorization is forgotten as a camel escaping away from its rope, which implies it’s so easy to slip off your memory.
“Read the Qur’an regularly. By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, it escapes from memory faster than a camel does from its tying ropes.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
And in another hadith, he affirms the same meaning:
Abdallāh b. ‘Amr reported God’s messenger as saying, “The one who recites the Qur’ān in less than three nights does not understand it.” Tirmidhī, Abū Dāwūd and Dārimī transmitted it.
So, revising Quran will help fix its memorization in your memory, and that shouldn’t be a daunting effort if you develop the habit of revising at least one part of the Quran daily.
Read 13 ways that help you revise Quran quickly.
Let’s say you’ve memorized 15 parts, then you should make a revision chart, in which you memorize a whole part each day for 15 days, and you can stretch the period according to your circumstances, however, you should stick to memorizing each part separately.
And that’s one of the most recommended pieces of advice because it allows you to memorize new parts without forgetting what you’ve memorized…However, you shall specify different times for both of them. For example, memorize new verses in the early morning and revise the old memorization before sleep.
It’s important to recite the part you want to revise, or even skim through it quickly with your eyes, because you may have forgotten some parts, and your mind will tire finding them. So, this quick reading will rearrange information in your mind and trigger it to recall them easier.
Note: Whenever you forget some word or part, squeeze your mind, trying to remember the complement of the verse, without looking at the mushaf, make this your final decision.
Make a habit of reviewing and reading surahs such as reading a Hizb or an entire part in prayer, or reciting to one of your colleagues, or to yourself. This will help you be familiar with the lengthy reading.
Read the parts to be reviewed out loud after the five daily prayers, and if possible, read its interpretation (tafsir) and the reasons for revelation; paying attention to the verses you’ve mistaken at. When you understand the tafsir of surahs, your mind will create a link between the consecutive verses, and will help you memorize Quran easily.
After a year of memorizing the Quran, you can divide the holy Quran into seven sections and revise them in a week (each section per day). That’s the approach prophet Mohammed as well as his companions did and it’s called Tahzib (التحزيب in Arabic).
This way is derived from a hadith of prophet moahmmed Abdullah bin `Amr where Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said to him , “Recite the whole Qur’an in one month’s time.” Abdallah said, “But I have power (to do more than that).” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Then finish the recitation of the Qur’an in seven days, and do not finish it in less than this period.”
So, how can you apply Tahzib in revision, here’s a short chart that helps you understand
DAY | Amount of Quran | Surahs |
1th | Three surahs | Al Baqara, Al Imran, An-Nisa |
2th | Five Surahs | Al-Ma’idah Al-An’am Al-A’raf Al-Anfal At-Taubah |

Hifz, or the memorization of the Qur’an, is a deeply rewarding and spiritually enriching experience. Joining a Hifz community can help you to develop a stronger connection to the Qur’an and to the Muslim community as a whole.
In addition to providing you with support and encouragement in your studies, a Hifz community can also offer you a chance to meet other like-minded individuals and learn from their experiences.
Listening to Quran will help fix the verses in your mind unconsciously. You might’ve noticed that sometimes when you’ve heard a verse while listening to a surah from a record and said to yourself: o, I know the following verse after it. That’s because your unconscious mind has stored the structure of the verses while randomly listening to the record, and now, all it does is recall it.
Though it pays off well, you can’t rely on this way alone to fix your memorization.
You can also orally review what you memorized before going to sleep. That also has to do with the way our minds are working, as the verses you say before sleep will be more fixed in your memory. You also can recite your new memorization in the Qiamallil prayer.
Furthermore, since your mind is preoccupied with the difficult events of the day, reading the memorized verses removes anxiety and worries, and fills your heart with peace.
This technique depends on the fascinating fact that says: Once you’ve known the initial letter, your mind can easily recall the sentence,
All you’ve to do is to write the first letters of the words of each verse and form their combination, and write one word that becomes a keyword to remember the verses. This is one of the most effective Quran revision ways to fix memorization and not forget it easily.
for example if you’re memorizing those four verses:
You can collect the initial letters of the four verses in this word (اذاو)
In order to revise the Quran effectively, it is important to have a plan. This plan should determine the timeframe you’ll need to revise… For example, it can range between 10 days and a month, and that differs from one person to another according to his capacity, how much he/she is busy, and how many parts one’s memorized.
After deciding all of those points, decide your revision rate by dividing the pages to be revised on your timeframe. For example, if you want to revise 300 pages in 15 days, then you’ve to revise 20 pages each day (that equals one juz). If you want to memorize 1/2 juz, you can stretch the period to a month.
Choosing a specific Qur’an that the Muslim’s mind and heart are comfortable with makes the matter of memorizing the Holy Qur’an easy. By memorizing from one Mushaf, the Muslim can remember the places where the verses were written, their shape and composition in case he forgot them, and this is one of the significant considerations for your Qur’an revision plan.
Memorizing the Noble Qur’an in the mosque is much more beneficial than in other places such as the home.
The mosque is the house of God Almighty dedicated to worship, and since memorizing the Noble Qur’an is one of the greatest acts of worship that God Almighty has bestowed upon us, the mosque is the best place in which a Muslim can memorize the Qur’an due to its comfortable and revered ambiance.
Also, the mosque plays a role in keeping the morale of the Muslim up, and freeing his soul from negative influences that negatively affect him including noise, feeling the desire to sleep, tension, and other negative matters. Also, it stops the believer from seeing forbidden things and hearing what does not please God and His Messenger, so he can focus on his reciation and feel the closeness of Allah.
This template you can either use it literally or create your own by changing the inputs in it. However, in both cases, it will help you understand how to create your plan/
