7. Memorize from al Nas to Baqarah

That’s not a fixed rule, but most people will find it easier to start with the short surahs in the beginning and challenge their minds along the way.

When you begin with lengthy surahs, you might be prone to lose your motivation faster and feel disappointed.

That can be applied to both kids and adults.

8. Assign Time to Memorize

People might be night owls or early birds, but no matter your type, you might lose your attention and not achieve your goals without specifying a specific time for memorizing the Quran.

This can be in the morning or after sunset.

Several studies agree that the human brain becomes at its optimum moment in the morning or after you wake up). You must make regular cues to develop the habit of daily memorization at a specific time.

For example, you can say: I’m gonna begin memorizing after the Maghreb prayer. So every time you turn your face eastward and westward after Taslim, you’ll bring your Mushaf and recite what you’ve to memorize.

9. Correct Your Pronunciation

For non-native speakers, pronouncing Arabic letters from their articulation points would be rather challenging, especially if they don’t study Arabic at school or some institutions.

Even native speakers seek the guidance of Quran tutors because they have difficulty pronouncing letters as Arab people did.

If you can’t pronounce letters correctly, we recommend you seek guidance and supervision from a professional, native Quran tutor if you can afford the fees, which will shorten your journey.

Being guided by someone who can pronounce Quran well means that he will aid you in every step in the process of memorization

10. Assign Time to Revise What You Memorized

Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Read the Qur’an regularly. By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, it escapes from memory faster than a camel does from its tying ropes.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Without revising what you’ve memorized, you’ll forget it easily. So, it’s important to set a revision program for yourself.

The best way to do it is to revise one page daily other than the page you revised ( you can add a revision section to your memorization chart and write the pages you’ll revise in order).

For example, let’s see, you’ll memorize page 603 and revise page 604 on the same day… (One new page with an older one)

See? It’s very simple, but you should do it daily.

You can also revise weekly if you’ve memorized many parts. For example, each week or two weeks, you can revise a memorized part)

11. Distinguish Between Similar Verses

Similar vases are one of the turbulent issues memorizers face while reciting the Quran, and they refer to the verses that begin or end with the same words.

Let’s take an example.

Both verses are in the same surah and share the same rear words but differ in the beginning… So, how reciter don’t confuse both?

The best way to memorize the similarities is to read with a sheik who has experience with the similarities in the rest of the verses..

12. Apply the Five Pillars Technique

The five pillars (الحصون الخمسة in Arabic) technique is An easy and affordable way to memorize the Qur’an perfectly in a short time, and it returns to the prophetic time. It is used widely in Quran memorization institutions and comprises five steps.

  • Continuous reading and listening

It means continuously reciting Quran from the Mushaf ( one or two parts every day if possible)

  • Preparation

That’s the most important pillar and consists of:

1. Weekly preparation: recite the seven pages you intend to memorize next week. For example, if you currently memorize (8-14 pages), you should prepare the seven following pages (15-21)

2-Night preparation: Recite the page you’ll memorize tomorrow for 15 minutes each night.

  • Revising the recent-memorized verses

once a week, revise the 20 pages before the page you currently memorize

  • Revising the old-memorized verses

Once a week, revise the five pages before the 20 pages you’ve already memorized

  • Memorizing new verses

But to understand each step thoroughly, let’s take an example of someone who memorized 26 pages, and this day, he’ll memorize page 27

So, he’ll do the following.

1. Memorize page 27 (15 minutes)

2. Revise the most recent-memorized verses: from page 6: 20 (20 minutes)

3. Revise the old-memorized verses from page 1: 6 (20 minutes)

4. Prepare page 28 by reciting it (15 minutes) and listen to it, if possible, ten times.

13. Repeat Each Verse 20 Times, Then Link.

Use This Trick when You Memorize Any Verse.

Recite it out loud 20 times while your eyes are fixed on their order in a mishap, recall it many times while tightly closing down your eyes, then move on to the following verse and repeat the same technique 20 times.

After you reach, let’s say, five verses. Read them 20 times and close your eyes and recite the five verses combined multiple times.

Do the same with the following five verses, then close your eyes and recite them all.

Remember: Repetition is a magical key to fixing information inside the brain.

14. Don’t Memorize More than ..

Don’t over-challenge yourself to memorize that your set goal. Or transgress the daily limit by exceeding your portion of the Qur’an.

If your goal is to memorise a page per day, which is a very reasonable amount, then don’t force your mind to memorize more.

Because when that seems thrilling to some point, it has a counterproductive effect and might cause fatigue in your mind that it will be tiring to memorize verses in the long run.

15. Record Yourself During Recitation

When memorizing, recording yourself is preferable (in case there is no one to hear you’re reciting or correcting your mistakes) is preferable.

Not also persistent listening to Quran will enhance incremental memorization of the verse, but it also will fill your heart with piety, comfort, and tranquility and draw you closer to Allah.. as he said in Quran, surah Ra’ad, verse 28

“Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.

18. Recite What You Have Memorized During Prayer

Every Prayer Is an Opportunity to Recite What You’ve Memorized Because the Ultimate goal of memorization Is to recite surahs in Prayer.

If you are hesitant or fearful of making mistakes, open the Mushaf and look at the verses you plan to recite.

Another advantage of this way is it’ll increase your concentration during prayer since the brain is more focused when experimenting with new things than making the normal day-to-day routine.

Also, you can recite what you have memorized or parts of the Qur’an in bed before sleeping.

19. Hang the Verses on A Wall

And of the ways is to type the verses, let’s say the five to be memorized on a board, then hang it on the wall.

So every moment your eyes fall upon them, they become glued to your mind and easy to memorize later.

You can apply this way, especially with your kids, and use colorful boards/flash cards catchy to their eyes..

That will make the process of memorizing Quran attractive to their hearts.
