Inshallah Meaning in Islam | Definition, Usage, Pronunciation

Also spelled as in sha Allah in Arabic, Inshallah meaning is very deep in Islam and it’s mentioned in the Quran and said by millions of Islam daily to speak about future events

As Muslims, we used to say this phrase when we talk about something that might happen In the future, especially if we plan to do so.

For example, I can say: in the next year, I will publish my book insh allah. Adding this phrase at the end of the future protects the sayer from any circumstances that might not happen if the plan goes off course.

Inshallah Definition and Origin

You can say insh allah when promising someone to do something. For example, granting him a gift or anything else. That, of course, won’t absolve you from attempting to keep your promise.

Yet, in the worst scenarios, like if you run out of money or develop some illness that hinders you from going out to purchase the gift, you can rest, assuring Allah isn’t demanding more than what you can do.

Insh allah is also woven into the Muslim culture fabric as an expression of politeness. Children learn to say (insh allah) after each sentence, which implies submitting to the father’s orders.

For example, if mum says: clean up your room. The kid will say: OK, I’m gonna do so insh allah. That’s much better than saying only ” ok”.

What is Inshallah Meaning in Islam?

Insha llah’s definition in Islam means believing that every action in life is controlled by Allah. And we as Muslims should submit to the will of Allah. In Quran, Allah said to Mohamed:

" وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَيْءٍ إِنِّي فَاعِلٌ ذَلِكَ غَدًا ۝ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاء اللَّهُ وَاذْكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِي" [ سورة الكهف:26]

And never say about anything, “I will do this tomorrow,” without adding, “if Allah so wills! (Alkhahf 26)

Muslims believe in their inability to predict or control the future decisively. They might say they have the power, possibility, resources, time, and everything to execute any action. However, they, on a very profound level, believe it’s only Allah who will dictate whether they can achieve such a thing or not.

So, this word embodies the humility of humans in front of God’s power.

Saying Inshallah Before Vow

Some Muslims say this phrase before making a vow. For example, a parent can say: if my kids recover I’m gonna pay x number but he couldn’t keep up to his vow. In this case, a Muslim isn’t obliged to atone for his failure or inability to execute his promise. a hadith (sunna) by the prophet confirmed that.

“Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Whoever swears an oath, and then says: “If Allah wills”, he is not held accountable if he breaks it.” [Ahmad and al-Arba’a reported it, and Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)].
